Department of Pediatrics : Residency Programs : Internal Medicine - Pediatrics

The Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program combines two outstanding programs and provides a unique training experience. The program exposes the resident to every sub-specialty with an emphasis on primary care.

Upon completion of the program, residents will be eligible for board certification in both internal medicine and pediatrics. Graduates may elect to enter primary care private practice, general academic medicine, hospitalist work, or sub-specialty fellowship training in either or both disciplines.

See what our graduates have done.

The combined residency program requires four years (48 months) of residency training, divided equally between internal medicine and pediatrics. Throughout the four years of training, the resident rotates between internal medicine and pediatrics, alternating three month blocks on each service. Continuity clinic experience is continuous throughout residency with alternating weeks in the internal medicine and pediatrics primary care continuity clinics.

This exciting, rigorous training program is a great fit for people who love both fields of internal medicine and pediatrics and welcome the challenge of learning two specialties.
