Department of Pediatrics : Academic Divisions : Child Abuse Pediatrics

The Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics (CAP) at The Medical University of South Carolina provides both inpatient and outpatient evaluations of children suspected of child maltreatment. The Child Abuse Pediatrics Division has three board certified Child Abuse Pediatricians, as well as one senior Pediatrician highly experienced in the field. The MUSC CAP also includes three certified pediatric nurse practitioners, a certified family nurse practitioner, a certified physician assistant, and five P-SANE RNs.

The MUSC CAP Division provides 24-hour coverage to any child suspected of abuse or neglect and works hard to provide education in the prevention of child maltreatment.

  • Emotional Abuse (emotional abuse including but not limited to exposure to domestic violence)

Training Programs

The Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics is active in educating nurses, medical students, physician assistant students, pediatric residents, and has a 3-year fellowship accredited by the American Board of Pediatrics.
