Pediatric Brain Tumor Program

Dr. Amy-Lee Bredlau, Director, Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program

The MUSC Children's Health brain tumor program is dedicated to improving the well-being and survival of children with brain and spinal tumors with comprehensive, coordinated care through research, clinical care, and support services.

Our clinical trials and experimental therapies provide patients and their families the most up-to-date treatment plans. We are the only Pediatric Multi-disciplinary Neuro-Oncology Clinic in South Carolina; our team is here to assist in any aspect of your child’s care.

Comprehensive Care

Brain and spinal cord tumors often have profound implications for children and their families. Oftentimes their care is complex and requires input from many specialists. That is why we believe that a multi-disciplinary approach is required for quality care.

Our Core Team Includes Members from:

  • Pediatric Neuro-Oncology
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Neurosurgery (brain and spinal surgery)
  • Nursing
  • Social Work
  • Neuroradiology
  • Neuropathology

Depending on your child’s needs, the team may also include experts in: Endocrinology (growth and hormones), Neurology, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Neuropsychology (brain and behavior), Audiology, and Nutrition.

Treatment Recommendations

Treatment recommendations are unique to each child. Each child’s clinical case is reviewed at a tumor board at the time of diagnosis or at the time of tumor progression. This multi-disciplinary team works together to individualize a plan of care. That often includes surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy or a combination of these.
